HOSPITAL FUNDRAISING EFFORTS TO BEGIN AT NY MUSIC FESTWednesday 4th September 2013
Days after being established as the sole fund-raising entity for the country’s lone public health care facility, Mount St John’s Medical Centre’s (MSJMC) Foundation Inc tapped into last weekend’s Music Festival in Harlem, New York, to bring awareness to its cause.
Head of Marketing and Communications Salma Crump said the New York event is a prime opportunity to spread the word to nationals and other prospective donors in the US. Support is being solicited on all fronts to assist the foundation, whose main purpose is to raise money to support the programmes and services offered by Mount St John’s.
“The hospital is vital to the community. We do our best to make sure essential resources are in place, ensuring the best possible care is always available – right here, in our own community,” Crump said.
“Philanthropic gifts are pivotal for this to happen, all the time, every time. With each donation it advances our ability to maintain the best care providers, facilities and state-of-the-art medical equipment ready for you and those you care about.”
Along with MSJMC CEO Sean DesChamps, the interim trustees are MSJMC Board Chairman Milton Pringle, and president of Friends of MSJMC, Dwayna Derrick.
“We are excited to be establishing a non-profit organisation that will work solely on fulfilling the hospital’s vital mission of improving the health and health care of the community we serve,” DesChamps said.
“This makes MSJMC one of the first hospitals in the Caribbean to have a Foundation. The work of the MSJMC Foundation will benefit all Antiguans and Barbudans for many years to come.”
Meanwhile, a search and screening committee will be convened to identify qualified candidates who could serve on the board of trustees for MSJMC Foundation Inc.
Once the nominees meet the requirements set forth in the foundation’s bylaws as well as any other criteria that the search committee independently determines, they will become members of the board, the communiqué stated.
The MSJMC Foundation will be an independent, non-profit organisation whose direction and activities are set by its board of trustees. Plans include having the foundation registered as a non-profit organisation (charity status) in the USA, Canada, and UK, which would provide the necessary tax benefits to donors living outside of the Caribbean.
