“EXCEEDED EXPECTATIONS!” ON TRIPADVISOR
Thursday 27th November 2014

Tripadvisor.com allows guests to review where they stayed, dined and what they did on vacation. Take a look below at this detailed review of Cocobay Resort

My wife and I were searching for somewhere to spend our 25th anniversary. We started by looking at the standard cookie cutter resorts in Mexico, Jamaica, even considered Hawaii. Antigua, hmm that sounds exciting, what's there? Here's something different, Cocobay Resort, cottages rather than a hotel room. Small, not very crowded, it really got our interest. No friends or contacts had ever heard of the place. We searched everything we could on the internet, the pictures looked too good to be true. There were so many positive reviews, it seemed too good to be true. So much that I almost suspected the reviews had been padded, but something kept pulling us back until we decided try it. Good or bad it will be an adventure.

We are SOOO glad we did! Cocobay lived up to all the positive reviews in every way.

The room - The deciding factor to book this trip was the pictures of the views from the room/bed/porch. Our cottage (#17) was absolutely perfect! That view was worth the entire trip. I had considered booking a cabin with the plunge pool but I'm not sure how much we would have used it, and we were totally satisfied without it. Maybe we'll try it next trip.

There are many descriptions of the resort and its amenities. Here are a few comments based on my concerns before we arrived and what we saw:

The Beaches - There are three beaches on or near the resort. All are clean and offer great views. (I hope I remember the names correctly) Little Ffrye's which is attached to the hotel (although all beaches are public) has loungers and shades available. The resort has kayaks and a Hobie Cat in which Robert will give you a sailing lesson. Big Ffrye's is a short walk and was vacant during the week. Jolly Beach to the east has a little more traffic, but still offered us a peaceful afternoon.

The Pools - There are two infinity pools, each well maintained and with fantastic views. Like other reviewers say, get there early to reserve a lounger.

The Bars - Two bars each offering great service from the friendly staff. They have a drink menu list or can make something special if you request. I tried everything and if I didn't like it, it was only because I didn't like the liquor type to begin with.

The Food - We only ate at the resort. As mentioned in other reviews, there are two other local restaurants that are not included, but we enjoyed the food at Cocobay and never really considered the others. I saw pictures before we left and was concerned about the portion size. There is no worry there. It is deceiving, the portions look small even in person, but by the time we finished the four courses we were both very full. I cannot think of one thing that we didn't like. Each course of each meal was fantastic.

The Staff - yes the reviews are correct, the staff is wonderful! Each and everyone we interacted with seemed to love their job. They were ready to assist in any way possible and seemed to genuinely care that our stay was perfect. I remember a review that said they didn't offer excursions. Not the case for us, they were happy to arrange anything we wanted. We were welcomed with a fine bottle of rum in our room (thanks again!) and Kevin made sure our fridge was stocked with what we wanted, not just an arbitrary assortment.

The Room - as I said before, I was apprehensive about the room, but again, the view was FANTASTIC. The bed was VERY comfortable. Everything was clean, absolutely no complaints.

If you have studied the reviews as I did, it's hard to believe that anything is this perfect. It truly was. Any flaws I could list would be petty compared to the great time we had. Are some of the whiny reviews true? Yes. Yes, they spray for mosquitoes, but it never disturbed us and the smoke cleared quickly. Yes, the cabin had a leak, but not bad, and it was just a drip. Yes, there were the occasional critter on the counter, but it's the tropics and anyone that has spent much time in that environment knows that you will ALWAYS see one.

Mr. O'Neal, thank you for a wonderful time. Your entire staff is a shining example of your resort. Thanks to every one of them, but especially Patrea, Prunell, Kevin, Robert, Cyeon, Sasha, Denise, Sonia, and most especially Melissa! I hope to see you all again soon.
