BEHOLD THAT STAR CHRISTMAS CONCERT Thursday 16th December 2010
‘Behold that Star’ December 18th Christmas concert. Featured players include the St. John’s Cathedral Youth Choir, the Cathedral Dancers, the Children’s Choir, and the Senior Choir.
There’ll be traditional Christmas pieces but, as fans have come to expect since the choir started 20 years ago, they’ll be shaking up the conventions with “a lot of drama and dance” and lighter fare like ‘Ding Dong’ – “a play on ‘Jingle Bells’” composed by Dr. George Roberts.
Audience members can expect to be “pleasantly surprised”. The SJCYC has acted as a nursery for some of the country’s best young singers and an extended family to young Anglicans; it has performed concerts in Washington, Canada, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and at CARIFESTA in Trinidad.
But with Saturday looming Hurst is most looking forward to when the last note is sung and she can finally get some rest. Still, she reflected, enthusiasm battling the weariness in her voice, “It’s the children that make this all worth it.” You might be singing the same tune after hearing them lift their voices in song at the Dean William Lake Cultural Centre. Show time is 8 p.m. Tickets can be had from choir members or Glenette’s.
