IWC ANNOUNCES “ANTIGUA’S GOT RHYTHM” TALENT SHOW FOR CHILDREN Friday 19th February 2010
The International Women’s Club of Antigua & Barbuda today announced that they will be hosting a talent show for children called “Antigua’s Got Rhythm,” to be held on 17 April 2010 at the Multipurpose Cultural Centre in Perry Bay. The event is a fundraiser for the club’s Scholarship Program, where each year they award $40,000 to Antiguan women to pursue tertiary education goals.
The show, to be structured like the popular televised talent shows in the U.S. and the U.K., will feature performers in three age categories: Wee Ones (4-7 years old); Middlings (8-11 years); Tweens (12-15). The show will be televised live on ABS-TV. Celebrity judges, the audience, and LIME cellular service users through Text to Win will determine the winning act in each age category, and then the judges will select an overall grand prize winner. Prizes will include cash awards and performance opportunities.
To narrow the field down for the final event, open auditions will be held on 20, 21, 27 and 28 March, with the venues to be announced shortly. Judges with backgrounds in arts education will select the final five acts from each age category that will then perform on 17 April.
Acceptable talent includes singing, dancing, musical performance, comedy or acting, with entrants being able to perform in only one category. Performances should be limited to no longer than 8 minutes, and can include solo performers, pairs, or groups of up to six children. Entry fees are $40 per solo performer, and $30 per participant for pairs or groups.
Entry forms can now be obtained at the LIME office in Woods Centre, Best of Books on St. Mary’s Street and in the Royal Palm Centre, Java Jojo in Jolly Harbour, and Auntie May’s Garden Shop in Falmouth. They can also be downloaded from the event website at www.antiguasgotrhythm.com after 25 February. Forms and fees must be returned to the LIME office in Woods by Friday, 5 March. From 22 February until the deadline, IWC members will be in the LIME office from 1-5 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday to receive the forms and answer any questions.
Sponsors already signed up for the event include LIME and ABI Financial Group.
