BARTS BASH NOTICE OF RACE
Wednesday 10th September 2014

In May 2013 Olympic Gold Medallist Andrew Simpson was tragically killed while training for the 34th Americas Cup, when the boat he was on capsized and broke up.

The Andrew "Bart" Simpson Sailing Foundation was set up by Sir Ben Ainsley, Iain Percy OBE, Andrews wife Leah, and others to honour Andrews life and legacy to inspire the next generation through the use of sailing to help young people develop the personal skills to succeed in life and improve access to jobs and careers within the maritime section.

On Sunday 21st September 2014 the Foundation is organising "Barts Bash", the largest sailing race in 24 hours (multiple venues) Guinness World Record Attempt.

To date 3,838 sailors and 638 Sailing Clubs have signed up to participate, including Antigua Yacht Club.

We will do our very best to be eligible to participate in the Record breaking attempt, but if we can't comply with some of the stringent requirements we can still raise some money for this worthwhile charity while having fun on the water.

The AYC intend to hold races for several dinghy classes and, if there is any interest, a race for keel boats, in the Falmouth area.

Ideally, each competitor should raise at least $EC120 to compete and sponsorship forms will be available from the AYC office.

The AYC and NSA have kindly offered to donate the use of their dinghies for the event and will sponsor their instructors to participate, we just need others to get involved, as one of the stipulations for the World Record attempt is to have at least 25 boats on the water.

So, don't delay, sign up now and let's get the ball rolling.

Even if you do not intend to compete your support will be appreciated, either in the shape of a donation or sponsorship of the competitors.

More information will follow shortly but meanwhile the link to the Barts Bash website is www.bartsbash.co.uk. The map included below shows sailors from around the world registered to particpate, taken from their website.
