American University of Antigua College of Medicine (AUA) and Dr. Danny Wedding, Professor of Behavioral Sciences, donated more than 500 textbooks and videos to the Minister of Education to be distributed to local libraries and colleges. This donation is valued at more than $100,000.

This is the most recent instance in a long history of exemplary community outreach conducted by the university’s students and faculty. AUA opens its campus to lead men’s and women’s health days, which have provided more than 5000 citizens with much-needed care over the past 5 years.  It partners with local organizations like Mount Saint John’s Medical Center, the Diabetes Association and Antigua and Barbuda Renal Society to hold fundraisers and events to raise awareness about dangerous diseases like Glaucoma, Autism, and Breast Cancer. AUA’s Vice President of Community Affairs, Vernon Solomon, hosts and produces a public-service television program Healthy Perspectives, giving viewers valuable insight into health and wellness education. AUA doesn’t limit its contributions to medicine.

In addition to supporting an annual international coastal clean-up day, the university makes its football fields available every Saturday to more than 400 children from 12 local schools as a host venue for a youth football league.
