More Information about the books:
Regarding the title of this two volume set:
There’s an old saying in the West Indies: “You fling stone inna hog pen, de one dat squeal, a him it lick.” In English: If you criticize a certain action or mode of behaviour without naming any individual, the person who complains about your remark is the guilty one. I hope that nothing in these publication causes you pain, all the same: “A throw me corn, me na call no fowl.”
Writer’s note – LOYAL MATES ‘N’ REPROBATES (page 5)
LOYALTY — an essential ingredient in the recipe for happiness in the family, the congregation and the nation — is a woefully scarce commodity in these critical times.
Loyalty is vital on the part of parents — especially husbands and fathers — to foster functional families and stem the flow of precocious and feisty urchins now flooding the region and the entire hemisphere.
Loyalty is a “post-requisite” for the victorious politician — to halt the ruthless raping of the treasury — for oft does the humble campaigner ascend to the seat of power, riding on the platform of anti-corruption and love for the “grassroots people”, but the noble sentiments are rapidly evaporated when the challenger has become the incumbent, and the Minister’s powers of recollection are in an appalling state of diminishment.
Loyalty is absent — in protracted abeyance — when the shepherd of the flock is completely overcome by carnal and pecuniary concupiscence, and the fleeced sheep are suffered to wander aimlessly in the wilderness.
Where do you stand? May the verses contained herein inspire you to be loyal to every just cause and to each trusting heart. Choose loyalty; summon forth the courage to swim against the current, to repudiate the way of the reprobate.
Writer’s note – HUMOROUS, STUDIOUS ‘N’ LUGUBRIOUS (page 3)
My life as a youth consisted of many depressing episodes, but also much laughter and devotion to study, and these early life experiences engendered a deep desire to become a writer and a humorist. I hope the poems in this my fourth book of poetry will serve to remind everyone, but especially the young, that in the present wicked system there are many injustices, and there is a time for serious reflection, even indignation; but we must also take time out to laugh and to learn.
