2010 INDEPENDENCE LITERARY ARTS COMPETITIONMonday 27th September 2010
“Wake Them Let Them Rise and Shine.” That is the Theme for all sections of the 2010 Independence Literary Arts Competition.
This year’s competition will involve the writing of short stories and poetry but will also include a spoken word element which will be staged a few weeks before independence.
People interested in entering the short story and poetry writing competitions are reminded that the word limit for adults eighteen years and over is 350 words while youth between 12 - 17 years have a word limit of 250 words. Children between 6 and 11 are limited to 150 words. The deadline for all of these written entries is Saturday 16th October at 7 pm. Entries can be delivered to either of the Best of Books locations (St. Mary’s Street or Royal Palm Place) or can be emailed to email@example.com. An emailed copy will only be accepted if complete registration information is also emailed. This includes full name / age range/ category / two telephone numbers / physical and mailing address / title of entry.
The spoken word competition for adults will be held on Saturday 9th October 2010 at the Jolly Harbour Sports Bar and Restaurant in Jolly Harbour beginning at 7 PM. This activity is open to the public but participants must pre-register at either of the Best of Books locations on or before Thursday 7th October. The spoken word will be judged in two areas (1) prepared two minute presentations and (2) one minute impromptu presentations.
The children 6 - 11 and youth 12 – 17 spoken word competition will take place on Saturday 16th October at 4:30 pm.
The Independence Literary Arts Competition is organized by Literary Antigua, a not for profit organization associated with The Best of Books Antigua Ltd. The organizers are still seeking corporate sponsorship in the form of prizes, gifts and awards.
