The Antigua and Barbuda Association of Realtors (ABAR) announces its formation. A Membership drive is initiated to actively recruit and register qualified real estate professionals and others interested in the real estate market.
The Association sets out to improve the standards and mode of operation of the real estate professions in Antigua and Barbuda. Through an association of qualified professionals, who are better educated and who adhere to a stringent "Code of Ethics". ABAR intends to provide better service and protection to property owners and prospective purchasers of property. ABAR will serve as a focused lobby on issues relating to property ownership, transfer of property, property rentals and property management and to have some input into the standards for property development.
It is the responsibility of every ABAR member to maintain the reputation of the Antigua Barbuda Association of Realtors and of the high standard of ethical practice which it promotes.
The reputation of any professional or governing body depends greatly upon the ethical standards observed by its members, both with each other and also in general with the community. The duty therefore falls upon each and every member of ABAR to conduct their business in a manner that is fair and with the highest level of integrity, which will effectively uphold and enhance the reputation of the real estate profession.
ABAR members pledge to observe its values in all of their activities whether that be conducted personally, through associates or through technological means, and to adhere their business in accordance with the terms set by ABAR.
Membership categories will be Full Members, Associate Members and Affiliated Members. Full Members will be voting members and will run the association. They are expected to be residents of Antigua and Barbuda, have a minimum of three years experience in the real estate industry and meet other qualifications as set out by the board. Associate Members are persons in training who intend to qualify. They will need to apply every year until accepted as Full Members. Associate Members are non-voting. Affiliated Membership will be non-voting and open to Property Developers, Chartered Surveyors and any company with interests in Real Estate but not directly operating as a real estate agent.
