PLAYTECH DONATES TO ROTARY'S LIBRARY & COMPUTER LAB PROJECT
Friday 18th October 2013
Nigel Pigott, Immediate Past President Philip Harris and Johann Hesse  (L-R)

The rotary club in its constant striving to live up to its mandate of helping accepted a donation from gaming software company Playtech, towards achieving the very real goal of constructing and outfitting a Library and Computer Lab at the Pigotts Primary School. This venture is being done in conjunction with the Belle Vue Breakfast Rotary Club in Seattle Washington who have donated a large portion of the necessary items. Constructed using the M2 panel system supplied by agent local architect and contractor Johann Hesse.

It is the view of the Club that this project will not only serve to enhance a school that has been in operation for a few decades, but also help to ensure that students of the Pigotts Primary School are afforded the opportunity to develop a love for reading from an early age. The project which also extends to a computer and IT based laboratory will also help to assist the Rotary Club of Antigua in promoting literacy in the Pigotts community and by extension the nation of Antigua and Barbuda. When the club reached out to Playtech¹s local manger Nigel Pigott the response was immediate as the software company has a proven track record and interest in assisting with the areas of health, education and youth needs. Always fast to participate in various charities and private causes all aimed at the betterment and well being of the island. Mr. Pigott stated that “improvements in local education need to start at the foundation in order to make it easier for students to compete at an international level later on”.

The school has been without a library for several years because the room designated was turned into a classroom. Since then, no room has been identified for a library space and students continue without this vital learning area. This is a situation that will be rectified very soon.

More donations are needed to finish, please feel free to contact Philip Harris of Rotary Antigua if interested.
