UFV STUDENTS LEAVE WITH SPECIAL MEMORIESMonday 27th May 2013
The twenty-one students and leader, Dr. Joanna Sheppard of the University of the Fraser Valley, British Columbia, Canada, left Antigua/Barbuda on Sunday, May 26, 2013, after a four week visit to the island.
While in Antigua, the UFV team, besides teaching Life Skills and Physical Education at some of the Primary Schools, including Five Islands, TNKirnon, Adele, to name a few, also gave great service to the CPTSA Wings Sports Club.
According to Dr. Joanna Sheppard, “the 2013 Champions for Health Promoting Schools program would like to thank the CPTSA Wings Sports Club for our ongoing collaboration this tour. We had such a great time volunteering at the Sir Reginald Samuel Track & Field Classic, Football Clinics, Wings Youth Basketball Festival, and the Whit Monday Road Race & Walk. We look forward to returning in May 2014 and wish you all, a healthy and active year.”
Before leaving Antigua, the UFV made a presentation to the Club, on Thursday, May 23. The gifts included Football socks, cleats and other training gear.
Dr. Sheppard commented that she’s hoping to have further collaboration with Antigua in cre-ating an ongoing exchange program in having Physical Education teachers visit the University of the Fraser Valley. Earlier this year, the UFV sponsored several Antiguan teachers to visit the UFV in Canada for a two weeks stint.
