ST. JOHN’S, ANTIGUA (July 19th, 2018) – The Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority (ABTA), in conjunction with Seaborne Airlines, and Ocean Point Resort & Spa recently concluded an introductory familiarization trip hosting local celebrity media and leading tour operators from Puerto Rico.
The group of eight journeyed to the destination to enjoy four days of activities, participating in site inspections, visiting tourist attractions and sampling Antigua and Barbuda’s cuisine. The trip was planned as an effort to enable the agents and media to gain better knowledge of the vacation product that they offer to their clients, and to increase sales and bookings for Antigua and Barbuda.
The trip was organized by the ABTA and Seaborne Airlines to open new opportunities between Antigua and Barbuda and Puerto Rico. It is the first time Seaborne Airlines has partnered with the ABTA on such an activity, and representative, Sales Manager, Ms. Melanie Fernandez was extremely delighted at the group’s response to the destination’s authentic tourism offerings and Antigua’s warmth and hospitality.
Regional Marketing Consultant at the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority, Charmaine Spencer said, “I am confident that the coverage received through this familiarization trip will directly benefit the destination as it is a part of the destination’s marketing plans and initiatives to attract more diverse visitors to Antigua and Barbuda especially during the slower summer months.”
Members of the group explained that most Puerto Ricans know Antigua from visiting via cruise ships, but many do not explore outside of the capital city of St. John’s. The trip introduced them to so much more, and went far beyond their expectations, showcasing a wide array of activities that the islands have to offer.
The group inspected six resorts, giving positive reviews of all. They were able to immerse themselves completely into local art, culture and history with tours to hotspots such as Shirley Heights Lookout and Nelson’s Dockyard. They also participated in various beach and on-the-water excursions and dined at popular restaurants such as Ana’s On the Beach.
Accompanying the group were local Puerto Rico celebrity radio host and blogger, Mr. Jose Falcon and popular online media hosts and journalists from the travel blog, ‘Latitud Perfecta’, Wilmarie Rodriguez and Miguel Camilo. The bloggers combined have a following of over 15k, and engaged with followers from their arrival to departure experience.
Seaborne Airlines serves Antigua and Barbuda with four non-stop flights weekly from San Juan’s Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport, Puerto Rico on a year-round basis. The airline carrier also connects to the US Virgin Islands and gives travelers additional access to destinations in the USA, the Americas and Europe.
