"The Tot"
|
|
The Royal Naval Tot
Club
of Antigua and Barbuda. |
| Formed
informally and "without plan"
in the summer of 1991, the Royal Naval
Tot Club of Antigua and Barbuda began as
a group of friends getting together at
6pm daily to celebrate a centuries old
Navy Tradition..... the drinking of the
"Daily Tot" Many of the
original members of the group were ex RN
or other Services, and all had an
interest in the preserving of tradition
and the history of the Royal Navy.
Combining the toasts of the lower deck
and the wardroom, each day's toast is
different, but each ends with "The
Loyal Toast , i.e "The Queen, God
Bless Her". |

| The
measure of rum poured is half a gill, or 1/8 of
an imperial pint, this is drunk neat, and
"downed in one"............... and
whilst this may seem to be a very strange and
unlikely way to attract general interest and
enthusiasm, the fact that the "Club"
has grown over the years to include over two
hundred members world-wide, as well as numerous
Overseas Chapters, is evidence that there are
many "like-minded people" out
there........ |

The
Full Members, Associate Members, Honorary
Members, Overseas Members, and their guests and
friends continue to meet daily, celebrate special
occasions such as Trafalgar Night, raise money
for various charities and needy or worthy causes,
perform community service, and above all, enjoy
life. One of the most rigidly adhered to
"aims" of the club, is to provide
friendship and hospitality to the officers and
crew of visiting warships, and very few of the
W.I. Guard Ships in recent years have visited
Antigua without being royally entertained, taken
sailing, invited to beach barbeques etc, by the
Tot Club. Needless to say, this is reciprocated,
and members of the Tot Club can all tell many
stories of their visits to, and entertainment on,
HM Warships!

|
|
| One must be
"invited" to participate in "The
Tot". Knowing a member makes this straight
forward, but for visitors who do not personally
know any of the members, a visit to the Tot
Club's current home base, ( at this time,
Calabash, Galleon Beach ) at "Tot
Time" is the best way to meet the members,
get to know them, and for those who come across
as interested and "like-minded", an
invitation will certainly be forthcoming, though
depending on the time of the year ( large numbers
attend during the height of the season ) this may
not happen on the first few visits.
Alternatively, one can call the Tot Club Office
at (268) 560-1946. |
