Sir Vivian
Richards Foundation (S.V.R.F)
Mission Statement
‘To encourage youth to reach their
highest potential by initiation and supporting sports
programmes, and to help promote education, recreation, health
and moral welfare.’
A nation or
region’s identity can be shaped by sport – such sporting ability
and achievements have always played a major role with tremendous
power to unite communities across all barriers, creeds and
gender.
Founded in
late 2003 by Sir Vivian Richards, Melanie Etherington and Neil
Keeling, the Sir Vivian Richards Foundation, a non-profit making
organisation, was conceived to promote the growth of sport,
specifically with the youth of the region, and hopefully later,
further a field.
With the
input, help, pledges, suggestions and sponsors drawn from around
the world, the desire of the SVRF is to help make a difference
to encouraging the immense sporting talent of our youth within
the region.
The
opportunity to unite individual children and communities through
sport, and the opportunity to achieve success through sport, and
the opportunity to achieve success through sport is not readily
available to all. SVRF is dedicated to giving such rare chances
to more youth of today, especially those impeded by social and
practical frustrations.
The West
Indies Boast many instances where our sporting heroes have come
from small villages with few facilities, and against all the
odds have reached the highest pinnacle of their chosen sport. On
their difficult path, they illustrate hard work, discipline,
fair play, honesty and joy.
Such noble,
courageous qualities can be supported and created in any young
individual to cross any barrier whether of a social, race,
creed, political or personal nature – if given the chance.
SVRF
believes in trying to dins such young persons to give them that
chance, and for hopefully setting the example where others may
follow.
