TOURISM PRODUCT EXPERIENCE FOR JR. MINISTER OF TOURISM HOPEFULS
Wednesday 31st August 2011

The six young persons who will vie for the title Junior Minister of Tourism, 2011/2012 at an event to be held this coming Friday, were today taken on a Safari Adventure Tour compliments Tropical Adventure.

Having indicated their interest in becoming Antigua Barbuda’s Junior Minister of Tourism, they were engaged in training sessions over the past four weeks. Cynthia Simon, Manager of Tourism Education, Training and Awareness within the Ministry of Tourism and Coordinator of this project, said: “they have all worked really hard and have shown much enthusiasm and interest in learning more about Tourism. They were really deserving of some fun time outside the boundaries of the classroom and while having fun learnt more about their island’s tourism product and offerings.” Simon expressed thanks to the Senior Tour Guide in the Ministry of Tourism, Elizabeth Mason and to the management and staff of Tropical Adventure for making this experience possible.

For the six students; Aliah Ephraim, Justina Sappleton, Kesi Jones, Derry-Ann Adams, Cassandra Vital, and lone male, Dijon Browne, Friday, September 2nd, will be D-Day. Each Junior Minister of Tourism hopeful will make a 3-minute presentation on one of the topics provided by the Caribbean Tourism Organisation. The tourism theme will be selected from one of the following: Information Communication Technologies, Community Tourism and Regional Marketing. In addition, each participant will have one-minute to respond to a mystery topic.

The student who is judged the winner will earn the title and will represent Antigua & Barbuda at CTO Youth Congress which will take place during the organization’s Sate of the Industry Conference, September 15-18. While there, they will meet with several of their peers who will represent other CTO member countries and will have the opportunity to witness CTO ‘s full membership in action and listen to their views and perspectives on factors influencing Caribbean tourism and trends,  and plans for the future.
